Explore the natural and cultural history of Tuolumne Meadows as you enjoy views of the Tuolumne River, many species of wildlife, and granite peaks and domes.

Soda Springs is a natural source of cold, carbonated water bubbling out of the ground. The spring is protected within a historic log enclosure. Parsons Memorial Lodge may be open during limited hours in summer. The lodge, which features historic exhibits and interpretive programs, may be open during limited hours in summer.

Begin this walk from Tuolumne Meadows Visitor Center, Parsons Lodge parking, or Lembert Dome parking. Distance may vary slightly depending on exact starting point.

Tips & Seasonal Information

Along this walk, you may get a glimpse of the many wildlife that inhabit the meadows, such as Belding's ground squirrels, mule deer, yellow-bellied marmots, and many others. Stay on designated trails to protect this fragile meadow ecosystem!

Pets and bicycles are not allowed on hiking trails. A vault toilet is available near Parsons Memorial Lodge.

This trailhead is only reachable by vehicle when Tioga Road is open, typically late May or early June to sometime in October or November.

Tioga Road closes after the first significant snowfall. Overnight parking on this road, including this trailhead, ends October 15. For current road and weather information, please call 209/372-0200 (press 1, then 1).

Accessibility

This trail is not wheelchair accessible. Some of the trail is a wide gravel path while other sections are narrow, rocky, and uneven. The western trail from the visitor center and Parsons Lodge parking includes a bridge that crosses the Tuolumne River; this bridge has several stone steps on either side.
