This point marks the northern boundary of Sequoia National Park. To the north, the Generals Highway passes through national forest lands. Just after Montecito Sequoia Lodge, the highway lies along the boundary between the national forest and Kings Canyon National Park, and then enters the park near Quail Flat.
If you're driving south, the highway enters Sequoia National Park here. You'll be in the national park until you pass the entrance station in the foothills and enter the town of Three Rivers.
Rules and regulations vary between the national parks and national forests. Check you park newspaper for details.
