A black and white photo shows horses, carriages, and people gathered just outside a Friends Meetinghouse.
Second Street Meetinghouse, circa 1890

In 1883 the West Branch Friends split into two factions. The conservatives withdrew and in 1887 erected a meetinghouse on 2nd Street known as the Friends Meetinghouse. The progressives' meetinghouse on Downey Street was hereafter known as the Friends Church. In 1968 the National Park Service tore it down and moved its porch and cry room to the restored original meetinghouse. The conservative Friends now meet at 317 North Sixth Street.
