West Branch moved its original one-room schoolhouse from its original location at the southwest corner of Downey and Main streets in 1870, where the Crook's Hotel building now stands. The building shared these grounds with larger school buildings until 1884. For a time it served as a classroom for the youngest grades. Its use as a classroom ended around 1877.
