The Scarborough Family Cemetery is a small, roughly 20-foot square plot of land where Scarborough family members have been laid to rest. A white picket fence surrounds the cemetery.

Generations at Rest

Although it is uncommon today, before public or church cemeteries, families buried their dead on their own property. The Scarborough family once owned this property and this is their cemetery. As you walk around Ocracoke, you may notice several family cemeteries, some of which are still active. Remember to be respectful of these sacred places on private property.
