Rapidan Camp - Mill Prong Bridge
This rustic bridge across the Mill Prong was the site of many photo opportunities. The picturesque mountain stream travels just a few feet further before meeting up with the Laurel Prong to form the headwaters of the Rapidan River. The Rapidan has long been known as a premier trout stream and was, perhaps, the biggest consideration of the Hoovers when choosing the area for their camp. President Hoover once claimed that he believed that "God does not subtract from your life the time you spend fishing." Note: Hoover lived to be 90 years old!
This bridge was washed away in a flood in the late 90s and was replaced.
