Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits, Trailhead
Looking towards the Gulf of Mexico, woody plants are replaced by sea oats, also known as the local dune grass. Closer to the gulf, a plant is exposed to more environmental stresses. These conditions with which living plants must content are wind-carried salt particles, sand shifted by water and winds, differing amounts of nutrients in the soil, the drying effect of wind and sometimes being overwashed by the sea itself.
