Powder Magazines: Fort Point Tour
Here you will find a winding hallway leading into the central powder magazines. Barrels of gunpowder for the fort's guns were kept in these rooms. Turn left and walk toward the exhibit displaying the flags that have flown over Fort Point. These two rooms contain displays on the Spanish period, soldier's life and equipment, and on the defenses of San Francisco Bay, from muzzle-loading cannon to guided missiles.
Continue down the hallway into the main powder storage area. Powder barrels here contained 100 pounds of powder each. Panels on the walls detail the regulations followed by soldiers working in the magazine. Return to the passageway and turn left. You now enter the smallest of the magazine rooms. It was likely used as a powder filling room. Exhibits here describe powder handling and storage.
