Looking west from an elevation of 2,460 ft (749 m), Pass Mountain Overlook gives you the chance to glance over Kemp Hollow and Neighbor Mountain, into the town of Luray below. The town of Luray was officially established of February 6, 1812. There are multiple stories about how the town of Luray got its name, but it is most likely named in honor of Luray, France, the ancestral homeland of the town's founder, William Staige Marye.
