North Channel Bridge is the most northerly point on Rulers Bar Hassock, the largest of the islands in Jamaica Bay. This sand and pebble beach and parking lot are a popular destination for birdwatchers, anglers and paddlers.

Before You Go

North Channel Bridge is open daily from 5 am to 9 pm. If you plan to paddle; be prepared, know your limitations, the weather, and the tides.

**Please refrain from landing a kayak on the shoreline of Rulers Bar Hassock as this refuge provides vital habitat for turtles, birds and other fauna and flora.**

At The Water's Edge

This sand and pebble beach provides access to the northeast side of Jamaica Bay. Parking lots are on either side of Crossbay Boulevard. Low tide reveals mudflats and launches can be muckier.
The Pumpkin Patch Channel heads South from the Western parking lot. Paddling in good conditions along the cloistered edge of the salt marsh usually provides great viewing of wading birds and a pleasant paddle. More experienced paddlers also use this launch for a variety of longer trips.
