Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937) was the inventor of the first radio wave communication system. Congress approved legislation for the memorial on April 13, 1938 (52 Stat. 217) and President Franklin Roosevelt signed the bill into law the next day. The monument was erected with funds collected by the Marconi Memorial Foundation.

Memorial Description

The memorial consists of a branze portrait bust of the Italian inventor. It sits on a double pedestal made of pink granite.
