Many Faces of Yosemite Falls
The ancient channel of Yosemite Creek once cascaded down the ravine to the left of Upper Yosemite Fall. About 130,000 years ago, a retreating glacier deposited ridges of geologic debris--known as a moraine--that blocked the channel. The creek was then diverted to its present route. Today, you can hike along that ancient creek's path. The 3.6-mile Upper Yosemite Fall Trail traverses the ravine. It rises 2,700 feet in elevation, and leads to the top of Yosemite Falls.
