This partner site's exhibt foyer is open Monday thru Friday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. The library is open to researchers who make an advance appointment through the APS website. Visitors can see the statue of Franklin in the niche above the exterior door on 5th Street, between Chestnut and Walnut Streets.
The research library of the American Philosophical Society houses thousands of volumes, manuscripts, periodicals and images, including a copy of the Declaration of Independence written in Jefferson's hand and the journals of Lewis and Clark. The original building was demolished in 1884 and reconstructed by the National Park Service in 1959.
