Quick Facts

General park information during or after regular business hours can be obtained outside the entrance to the Johnson City Visitor Center on the bulletin board.

Today's visitor center building was originally built as a regional hospital in 1969. Initially known as the Pedernales Valley Hospital, the name would later be changed to remember the former president: the LBJ Memorial Hospital. Over the decades, it became more efficient to transport critical patients via helicopter to larger, better-equipped hospitals in Austin or San Antonio. In the mid-1990s, this building was repurposed as the park headquarters and visitor center.
