Jules Jusserand was the French ambassador to the United States from 1902 to 1925. Jusserand was an accomplished author and close associate of many of Washington's elite, including President Theodore Roosevelt. The memorial was erected by the Jusserand Memorial Committee at no expense to the United States. It holds the distinction of being the first memorial erected on Federal property to a foreign diplomat and was approved under an Act of Congress on June 17, 1935.

Memorial Description

The memorial is constructed of pink granite and is carved in the shape of a bench. The bench is semi-circular with four steps and is 10-feet long.
