Harden Lake Trailhead

A forested lake dotted surrounded by grasses, downed trees, and boulders
Harden Lake

Quick Facts

Hike to a quiet forested lake beginning from the White Wolf area. The hike begins along a gravel road that follows the Middle Fork of the Tuolumne River. This road was part of the former Tioga Road before it was reconstructed. At the trail junction 1.75 miles (2.8 km) down the road, follow the signs to the lake.

Distance: 5.8 miles (9.3 km) round-trip
Elevation gain: 390 ft (120 m) on return
Time estimate: 2-4 hours

Route variation: continue past the lake and descend steeply to the edge of the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne River. To return, follow signs for Lukens Lake and White Wolf to complete this loop hike. This loop is much more challenging and adds 1,000 ft (300 m) of elevation gain.

Tips & Seasonal Information

Pets and bicycles are not allowed on hiking trails.

If the road to White Wolf is closed, add about two additional miles, round-trip, to this hike.

This trailhead is only reachable by vehicle when Tioga Road is open, typically late May or early June to sometime in October or November.
