Hans Halseth House

A simple 1 1/2-story white clapboard house with a gabled dormer and covered front porch
Pretty little house.

NPS credit

The private residence of surfman Hans Halseth, the house is a one-and-half-story, wood-frame, side-gabled structure with a central gabled dormer. The house was constructed circa 1890; a shed located behind the house was built around 1910.

This simple, vernacular house is representative of the modest dwellings that USLSS crew members constructed for themselves and their families. Like other small structures at North Manitou Village, these houses tended to be highly mobile landscape features.
