The Fort Smith National Cemetery is located a little over three blocks east of Fort Smith National Historic Site on Garland Ave.

Major William Bradford

Section 2, site 604

Major William Bradford served in the War of 1812 and was the first commander of Fort Smith. On December 25, 1817, he and his company of the U.S. Regiment of Riflemen landed at the confluence of the Arkansas and Poteau Rivers to establish the first Fort Smith.

Thomas Russell

Section 2, site 605

The first recorded interment in the cemetery that would later become the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Thomas Russell was a surgeon in the US Army and accompanied Major Bradford's command to Fort Smith in 1817.

Isaac C. Parker and Mary Parker

Section 9, sites 3999 and 4000

Isaac C. Parker was a Corporal in the US Army during the Civil War. He served two terms as a congressman for the state of Missouri before being appointed US District Judge for the Western District of Arkansas. Mary Parker is buried next to her husband. Learn more about Judge Parker.
