Cannon Debris

Fort Massachusettes was designed for 37 cannon, but only 17 were mounted during the 1870s. In the early 1900s, many were sold for scrap. Due to their weight, most were broken apart before removal. The debris here, was never removed from the fort. Scattered on top of the pad and on the grass around the pad are large broken pieces of a cannon.
