Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture's mission is to engage and connect people with arts and culture on a historic waterfront campus. Once the gateway to the Pacific for many soldiers from the late 19th century through WWII, in its modern incarnation Fort Mason Center is home to many non-profit programs including museums, theater groups, centers for the arts and yummy food places.
One of the Best Views in Town
On clear days, Fort Mason Center offers pristine views of the Golden Gate Bridge which spans the northern narrows of the Bay, leading into the high hills of the Marin Headlands. Also visible and closer than the bridge is Alcatraz Island, with its blocky, sand-blonde facade, square windows and lighthouse rising in sharp relief against the Bay's blue-green waters.
A Center with a Purpose
The organizations housed in the Center seek to inspire and foster creativity by providing a vibrant gathering place and a home for thought-provoking programs. The Center provides a venue for events and organizations, including galleries, theaters, performance spaces, museums, and arts education facilities. Some of the current organizations include the SF MOMA Artists Gallery, Children's Art Center, Magic Theatre and Blue Bear School of Music.
