In-person permits during the quota season are limited. We recommend advance reservations at recreation.gov.

During the quota season and on weekdays, get wilderness permits here for overnight backpacking trips along foothills trails, and also the South Fork and North Fork areas. On the weekends, these permits are issued from a self-registration station next to the Foothills Visitor Center restrooms.

Outside the quota season wilderness permits are free, self-issued, and available just outside our office.
