US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt attended a performance of The Lost Colony during the drama's inaugural year on August 18, 1937 as part of a speaking engagement commemorating the 350th anniversary of the birth of Virginia Dare.

The marker was placed inside the Waterside Theater, near the location where President Roosevelt watched the performance of The Lost Colony.
