The C&O Canal aqueducts are “water bridges” that once carried canal boats over the creeks and rivers that flow into the Potomac River. Built from 1839 to 1841, the Evitts Creek Aqueduct is the last of twelve such “works of art” on the canal. As the smallest aqueduct on the canal, its single arch only spans a distance of 70 feet.
