Many of our national parks have benefited from the hard work of the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC), and Grand Canyon is no exception. The park you see today would be much different without the trails, railings, telephone lines, and countless other contributions of "the boys" in the 1930s. This site marks where CCC workers built the transcanyon telephone line in 1935. A short walk straight ahead to the stone wall will show you a plaque commemorating their work and give you a view of the old telephone poles.

Today the transcanyon telephone line has largely been replaced by more modern methods of communication, although short sections of telephone poles installed over 80 years ago are still used today.
