Quick Facts

Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

The Blue Ridge Heritage Project is a non-profit organization whose mission is to build monuments to honor the people who were displaced by the creation of Shenandoah National Park. Eight counties from which mountain residents were relocated have monuments: Madison, Page, Rockingham, Greene, Rappahannock, Albemarle, Warren, and Augusta. Most of the monument sites include exhibits about the families. We invite you to visit these gateway communities and the beautiful monuments and learn about the people who sacrificed their homes for the establishment of Shenandoah. You can also learn more about this story at Byrd Visitor Center (mile 51).

The Greene County Blue Ridge Heritage Project Monument is located at 40 Celt Rd., Stanardsville, VA 22973

The Greene monument is located next to the Greene County Administration Building, at the corner of Main St. and Celt Rd. Park in the lots in front of or behind the building. Restrooms are available in the Administration Building when it is open.
