Beach Access Ramp 43 provides off-road vehicle and pedestrian access throughout the year to the beaches near Cape Hatteras, as well as access to the cape itself. There is some off-road vehicle access north of the ramp before it turns into a pedestrian-only area.

There are a limited number of parking spaces available at the turnabout at the start of the ramp.

Off-road Vehicle Use


For beaches open to off-road-vehicle use, an off-road vehicle permit is required. Annual permits (from date of purchase) are $120 and 10-day permits are $50. Vehicles must be licensed, insured and registered; you must present your driver's license and vehicle registration. Permits must be purchased online at Recreation.gov
