On May 15, the North Rim reopened for the season. Visitors should plan ahead and be prepared for a more remote experience this year, with limited services available as the park continues recovery and restoration work.
The 2026 season will focus mainly on day use and limited backcountry access, with some scenic drives, viewpoints, and trails open to visitors. Please keep in mind that potable water will not be available on the North Rim, so be sure to bring plenty of water and food for your visit.

Angels Window Overlook
Angels Window is essentially a rock "bridge" created by erosion, forming an arch through which you can see the Colorado River below. From Angels Window, you can also see Vishnu Temple, and other iconic canyon landmarks.
The Cape Royal trail begins on the southeast side of the Cape Royal parking area. A short, easy side trail leads to a narrow area above Angels Window, which offers visitors the chance to stand over the natural arch and enjoy a magnificent viewpoint.
The views are stunning and one may feel as if they are floating above the canyon. Railings and fencing secure the area. However, walking above Angels Window may not be a good idea if you are afraid of heights!
The Cape Royal Trail is 0.4 mi. / 0.6 km round-trip; 30 minutes approximate round-trip hiking time.
NOTE: RVs over 22 feet long, and vehicle-trailer combinations with a total length over 22 feet, are not permitted on Cape Royal Road and the Scenic Drive due to narrow, windy roads with blind corners.
