Herbert Hoover's Uncle Allen owned a farm one mile north and a half-mile east of West Branch. After losing first his father, and three years later, his mother, Herbert Hoover went to live on his uncle's farm at the age of nine. It was to be his home for the next two years, until he went to live with his Uncle John in Newburg, Oregon.

The Allen Hoover home no longer stands on this private property.
