Hello, and welcome to the Lands End Lookout, perched here on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, at the western boundary of San Francisco.

Let's begin by stepping to a quieter part of this space.Stand with your back to the desk and walk carefully forward about six steps until you find a similar counter.Pause here.

The Lands End Lookout is a single room with a café attached. It's designed to give visitors an overview of the natural history, ecology, and social history of this area. It also provides visitors with a chance to purchase memorabilia that relates to the stories we tell here. Staff at the desk can tell you more, and help you make purchases if you want.

The tour lasts about 35 minutes.

Right now, you're standing at the east end of the room. If you face west, you may see, high above you, a series of rectangular, corrugated cardboard art works suspended from the ceiling. Their laser-cut designs depict scenes of life here over time, including native flora and fauna, Native American artifacts, means of transport, recreational activities, and landmarks like the windmill and the Cliff House.

Now we'll proceed counterclockwise around the room. We'll walk almost to the other end of the room. Stand so your back is to this counter. Turn right and walk carefully straight ahead about eight to ten steps, to the far wall. You'll be passing the entrance, so be aware that people may be in your path. When you touch the wall, turn left. Now, walk straight ahead again. You'll have shelves on your right, and counters on your left. In ten or twelve steps, you'll come to a wide, cement doorway that leads into the café. Keep going straight past it, then stop just on the other side. Reach out and touch the large panel attached to the wall.
