Pea Ridge National Military Park takes visitor safety very seriously and wants all visitors to be safe, learn and have fun.

Share the Road

Pedestrians, bicycles, and cars can use the driving tour road in the park. Please be mindful of crosswalks and pedestrians along the road within the park. The driving tour road in the Pea Ridge National Military Park is mainly a one-way 7-mile road. Drivers and bicyclists should take care to follow all posted speed limits and signs. Pedestrians should use trails or roadsides whenever possible. Most of the hiking trails in the park are made of dirt and are uneven. When moving along the trails, it is important to look out for roots and surfaces that can be a trip hazard. Bicycles should only ride on paved surfaces. Please stay on the trails and roads for one's safety.

Take Care and Stay Aware

Bicycles should only ride on paved surfaces. Please stay on the trails and roads for your own safety.

For your safety, please remember the following:

  • Please do not climb on, around, or try to move the many cannons in the park.
  • There are four types of venomous snakes in the park. If you come across a snake, do not disturb it, and leave the area.
  • The park is home to many animals, and they are all protected by the park. Some of them are harmful. DO NOT approach, touch, feed, or pet the wildlife in the park.
  • Ticks are plentiful in the park. Please protect yourself by wearing socks and pants when hiking, using insect repellent on your clothing, and by performing a thorough check afterward.
  • While you can walk anywhere in the park, including off the trail, please remember that there are holes, abandoned wells, and many other hazards on or below the surface. Keep an eye on your surroundings.

Before heading off into the park on a hike or exploring:

  • Tell a friend or family member where you’re going and about how long you will be gone.
  • Check the weather forecast
  • Charge a cell phone and take it with you
  • Be sure to take plenty of water
  • Take a map with you
  • Take a compass with you
  • Wear closed-toed shoes
  • Wear brightly colored clothing
