All field trips to Pea Ridge NMP are currently self guided. We offer ranger programs at the Visitor Center as well as volunteer/ranger programs at the Elkhorn Tavern (when available). The ranger programs are given on request, and the Elkhorn Tavern program is typically standard. A typical field trip consists of going through the museum with a scavenger hunt, seeing a ranger program (on request) and then taking the self-guided 7-mile drive around the battlefield.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Visitor Center Interpretation staff.
Museum Scavenger Hunts
We currently offer only TWO Ranger programs for school groups. You must request one when scheduling your group.
One program we offer is a musket firing where a ranger, dressed as a Civil War soldier, fires a weapon for the group and discusses a soldier's clothing, weapon and supplies.
The second program we offer to school groups is a cannon program. WE DO NOT FIRE THE CANNON. A ranger will discuss all the parts of a cannon, how it was fired and the steps needed to fire the gun. Six to eight student volunteers participate as the cannon crew and they demonstrate how to load and fire a cannon. Again, WE DO NOT FIRE THE CANNON.
