Morrison Worthingham was born in England in about 1815, according to the 1860 United States Federal Census, or 1816, according to enlistment records. Before his enlistment, he lived in Joliet, Illinois, as a clerk alongside his wife, Sarah Ann, and their four kids, Jacob, Wellington, Catharine, and Lydia Ann. Information about Morrison can also be found under the names, "Morrison Worthington" or "Morson Worthingham." 

Worthingham had enlisted with the Union Army on July 15, 1862. He had mustered out as a Second Lieutenant of the 100th Illinois Infantry, Company K. The 100th Illinois Infantry was organized at Camp Irwin, in Joliet, Illinois. Their first engagement was near Bardstown, Kentucky, before moving on to the Battle of Stones River. The 100th Infantry was ordered to be placed under the left wing of the fighting, where they held ground near the banks of the Stones River, before being tasked to hold the Federal left, alongside Hazen’s Brigade, to protect the Round Forest. They remained in position, fighting to protect the Round Forest, until nightfall. It was during this time of the battle that Second Lieutenant Worthingham was killed.

Morrison Worthingham is laid to rest in the Stones River National Cemetery in Plot F-2485.
