Description:

William Willson was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia on December 18, 1843. He passed away in Augusta County Virginia on December 14, 1900 at the age of 56.

Wilson served in the 4th Virginia Infantry Unit from 1861-1862. Willson was captured at the 1st Battle of Kernstown and did not rejoin his regiment after being exchanged in August of 1862.

On September 15, 1862, William enlisted in Company H, “The Second Rockbridge Dragoons," of the 14th Virginia Calvary Unit.. He served with this unit during the 1864 Shenandoah Valley Campaign, under Jubal Early in General McCausland’s Brigade of Cavalry. He was captured near Port Republic on the 26th of September 1864.

After being captured, William was imprisoned at Fort Delaware, Delaware. After the war William returned home to Augusta County and worked his farm. His wife Mary died just three days after his death in 1900.
