William Beard was born in England in 1830, emigrated to Johnston, Providence County, Rhode Island where he lived with his wife Isabella (married 1861) and worked as a weaver/operator until his enlistment in August 1862. William was killed in action during the second day's fighting of the Battle of Gettysburg.
