Wilbur Fisk sent letters to a Vermont newspaper during the Civil War. He joined the US Army believing he would regret it if he didn’t. In 1864, Fisk wrote of the Shenandoah Valley, “the people have tasted the bitter fruit of secession and have had enough of it.”
