Leslie P. Taylor was born on October 25, 1920, and grew up in Bedford County, Tennessee, where he worked on a farm prior to World War II. Like many young Americans of his generation, Taylor answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving as a Private in the Infantry.
During the Allied invasion of Europe in 1944, Taylor was killed in action on June 14, just days after D-Day, while fighting to liberate France from Nazi occupation. For his sacrifice, he was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
Leslie P. Taylor is buried at Stones River National Cemetery in plot P–6290, where his grave stands as a lasting reminder of the courage, service, and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in defense of freedom.
