Born in Green County, PA, Simon was a farmer before his enlistment in Morgantown, Monongalia County, VA September, 1861. Two separate unspecified incidents caused Simon to be hospitalized. December 1861 and admitted between October and November of 1862 and release between December of the same year, or in January of 1863. Simon was wounded by a shell at the Battle of Gettysburg 07/03/1863 and died the following day. Simon was survive by his wife Elsie (married 1861), who passed away in 1867.
