| James Leroy Russell, was born on January 25, 1947 and has Anson, Jones County, Texas listed as his home on record. He was a Sergeant in the US Army, serving in Company C, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division and specialized in Light Weapons Infantry. He started his tour in Vietnam on January 28, 1967. On April 23, 1967, Russell was in one of three Armored Personnel Carriers that set off AT mines. Russell and another member of Company C were killed and three were wounded in the Hua Nghia province. Russell was awarded a Purple Heart and is honored at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. on panel 18E, line 76. He is buried at Stones River National Cemetery in plot Q-6737. |
