| Private Horace Ready and the 9th United States Volunteer Infantry left Camp Houston in New Orleans on August 17, 1898 headed for Santiago, Cuba. Although the Spanish American War fighting there had ended thanks to an armistice declared on August 12, the war did not officially come to a close until December 1898. Ready received an honorable discharge on March 6, 1899, shortly before 9th Infantry left Cuba on April 26 of that year. He passed away on May 17, 1941, and is interred in plot Q-6186 of Stones River National Cemetery. |
