Thomas Jefferson Mooneyham was born on July 8, 1920 near Fayetteville, Tennessee. Mooneyham worked on a farm before he enlisted on April 7, 1942 in Shelbyville, TN.

He served as a Private in the medical department of the US Army in the 23rd Armored Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division. He also reportedly worked for the 77th Evacuation Hospital. He died while on active duty during the last few days of the Battle of the Bulge just three miles west of St. Vith on December 23, 1944.

Mooneyham was awarded a Purple Heart and is buried at Stones River National Cemetery in plot P-6317.
