Patrick Henry McBride was born on April 16, 1943 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University and was a part of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. McBride was married to Rosalee Martin McBride.

He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Marines in Company C, 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry. On August 11, 1969, he took part in a live fire exercise, riding in a tank that struck a tree and overturned near Wildflecken, Germany, killing Patrick and wounding four others. He had been in Germany for almost two weeks before the accident happened.

Patrick is buried at Stones River National Cemetery in plot Q-6837.
