Martin L. Scott was born in Marshall County Virginia - which is now in West Virginia around 1838. Before entering the military, he was a farmer. Martin enlisted 1861 in the town of Cameron in Marshall County.

At the beginning of 1862 he was hospitalized in Cumberland, VA (WV) and again in January or February 1863 in Alexandria, VA with an unspecified illness. On July 2nd in Gettysburg Martin was killed in action. There is no specific information available regarding his interment in the Soldier's Cemetery.
