Constantine S. Legg was born on April 21, 1831, in Crawford County, Illinois. In 1849, he married Jane A Markee. By the time the Civil War was nearing its end, Legg was 33 years old and working as a farmer.

On February 11, 1865, Legg enlisted in Company H of the 152nd Illinois Infantry. According to Illinois muster rolls, he stood 5’4” tall, had dark hair, gray eyes, and a fair complexion. The regiment was mustered for a one-year term, soon moving from Illinois to Nashville, Tennessee, and then to Tullahoma. The 152nd Illinois was assigned to the 2nd Brigade, tasked with defending the Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad under the Department of the Cumberland.

Tragically, after only a month in service, Private Legg died on March 14, 1865. He was first buried in Tullahoma, but his remains were later moved to Stones River National Cemetery, where he rests in Plot J-3735.
