William Thomas King was born in 1923 in Tullahoma, Coffee County, Tennessee. Before his military service, he worked in a local shoe factory, contributing to his community’s workforce.
During World War II, King enlisted in the United States Army as a private and served in Company M, 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division. He was killed in action on July 30, 1944, in France while fighting in the European Theater. For his sacrifice, he was awarded the Purple Heart.
King was initially buried in St. Laurent-sur-Mer, France, on August 7, 1944, before being reinterred at Stones River National Cemetery, where he rests in Plot P-6266. His grave honors his courage and service in the fight for freedom.
