John Timothy Dwight Gisiner was born in 1844 in Rockbridge County, Virginia near Brownsburg. Gisiner enrolled into the Virginia Military Institute in 1861 and shortly after enlisted into the Rockbridge Light Artillery Battery on July 10, 1861. Gisiner saw action in Jackson’s 1862 Shenandoah Valley Campaign, including McDowell. On the way to McDowell in the spring of 1862, Gisiner contracted a disease that proved fatal.  Gisiner passed away on June 7, 1862 about a month after falling ill. He is buried in the New Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Raphine, Virginia.
