| Born in 1840, John worked as a farmer until 1861 when he enlisted in Milford, Delaware as a private. September 1862 John was promoted to corporal. He was furloughed in April 1863, returning to active duty to serve during the Battle of Gettysburg where he was killed in action on July 3, 1863. |
