George Graham was born in Clark County, Illinois, in 1844, and by the time he entered the Union Army in 1865, he was 21 years old. According to the Illinois Descriptive Roster, Graham stood 5 feet 6½ inches tall and had dark hair, dark eyes, and a dark complexion. Before the war, he worked as a farmer in Hardinville, Illinois, and was married.

Graham mustered into Company H, 152nd Illinois Regiment on February 11, 1865, at Olney, Illinois, committing to one year of service. The regiment organized at Camp Butler in Sangamon County, Illinois, before departing the state for Nashville, Tennessee. They arrived there on February 20, 1865, spending several days in the city before receiving orders to move south to Tullahoma, Tennessee, where they took up duty.

Tragically, only a little more than a month after joining the Union Army, Graham fell ill while stationed in Tullahoma. He died from an unspecified illness on March 18, 1865. Today, George Graham rests at Stones River National Cemetery, in plot H‑3012.
