| Though there is no information about where George was born, records indicate that he was a farmer, prior to his enlistment in Woodsfield, Monroe County, OH September 1861. George was hospitalize with an unspecified illness June through October 1862 in Alexandria, VA. From November 1862 through April 1863 he was arrested & confined at Fort Delaware for desertion. George was released in April of 1863 after a letter from Lieutenant Alonzo Conaway of the 7th West Virginia Infantry affirmed that George was not deserting, but rather attempting to get back to his regiment. Eleven weeks later, at the Battle of Gettysburg, George was killed in action on July 2/3, 1863. |
