George Followell (also listed as George Fallows) was born in Monroe County, Indiana, in 1831. Before enlisting in the Union Army, George worked as a miller and farmer in Bell Air, Illinois, where he lived with his wife, Lucy, and their son, Albert.

On February 11, 1865, George Followell enlisted as a private in Company H of the 152nd Illinois Infantry at Olney, Illinois. The 152nd mustered into service for one year at Camp Butler in Springfield, IL, on February 18, 1865. On February 20, the regiment moved to Nashville, Tennessee, then further south to Tullahoma, Tennessee. In March, the regiment was charged with defending the Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad. Before the month was out, George passed away on March 23, 1865, of an inflammation of his lungs.

George Followell is laid to rest in Stones River National Cemetery in Plot H-3013.
