David was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania where he was a painter. He enlisted September, 1861. While serving as an orderly to Colonel William Gamble, David was killed in action by a shot to the head, July 1, 1863 at the Battle of Gettysburg. He was survived by his wife Elizabeth (married August 1857) and his son George, age 3.
